We stopped at the shrimp trucks for lunch. There was literally a little parking lot with five of these trucks. The shrimp was very fresh and quite tasty! As you'll see, the truck caters to the Japanese. Believe it or not, there are a ton of people from Japan in Hawaii. It's very inexpensive for them to travel there and the exchange rate is so much in their favor shopping is very affordable, too. Kate says they even ship coats and sweaters to Hawaii (average year round temperature in the 80's) for the tourists. In SC we expect to see Spanish in our signs, but in Hawaii you can expect to see Japanese.
Before we left, we had picked out a couple beaches we wanted to see - mostly famous and beautiful. We weren't really sure exactly where each beach was so we just pulled over on the side of the road and went for a dip at a random, uncrowded beach.
Before we even got situated, the people around us started getting really excited about something. There were sea turtles right near the edge of the water. We quickly threw on our snorkeling gear on and swam with the turtles. They were everywhere!
I was able to wade out in the water to take a few pictures from right above the turtles. I used the "aquarium" setting on my little cannon point and shoot camera for the picture on the right. I was really impressed with the difference it made.
After snorkeling with the turtles, the crowded beaches just couldn't compare, even if they were rated as some of the best in the world. But, we stopped to take pictures and be touristy anyway!
